We all have days when we feel alone, sad, unwanted, a burden. Those feelings are no stranger to me, having been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, as well as anxiety. I’m here to tell you this:
It is important to do our best to re-assure ourselves that we matter, that we are enough, and then do our best to speak even when it feels impossible. Reaching out for help - to a trusted friend, therapist, or doctor - when we are down. We don’t have to struggle with these sad feelings on our own. It is not bad to feel sad, or depressed. As we speak, we can release the shame and the light can begin to return.
Today, I wanted to share 3 Essential Oils To Grab When You Feel Sad. These essential oils won’t take away your sadness, but what I hope they offer is at least a moment of reprieve from the burdensome feelings. You can apply these as often throughout the day as you need.
Rub Peppermint Oil on the bottoms of your feet. Peppermint Oil is said to be the “Oil of a Buoyant Heart.” I notice that when I put Peppermint Oil on the bottom of my feet, it gives me a subtle energy that allows me to get out of bed when it feels really hard to do so.
Inhaling essential oils can create a powerful shift in mood because of the way our Olfactory system affects our brain. Using Aromatherapy is a great way to help assist your body in obtaining the type of mood you desire. My favorite for sad days is to pull out any Citrus Oil - my favorite is Citrus Bliss, but you could also reach for Wild Orange, Grapefruit, or even Bergamot. Simply place one drop of your preferred Citrus Oil in the palm of your hand, cup your hands together and place over your nose, then breathe in deeply. If you have a diffuser, pop a few drops into that to bring a cheery aroma into your space.
Balance is an amazing grounding blend that can help you feel centered and at ease. This blend of Spruce Leaf, Ho Wood Leaf, Frankincense Resin, Blue Tansy Flower, Blue Chamomile Flower, and Osmanthus Flower essential oils in a base of Fractionated Coconut Oil promotes tranquility while bringing harmony to the mind and body, and balance to the emotions. I like to rub this blend on the bottoms of my feet, over my heart, and then inhale deeply throughout the day to help me remember to pause, breathe, and practice a moment of gratitude.
I hope you will remember to reach for these essential oils on days where you feel overcome with feelings of sadness. As you reach for them (and I know that is hard to do when you feel very overwhelmed), you’ll find a momentary sense of relief and I hope that is enough to get you through to the next hard moment.
So many hugs and love to you in your struggles. You are not alone, you are loved, you are worthy, and you matter so much.
